NORTH STAR
Melanie Pankau
September- October 2025

Case Edgerton Studios is proud to present, NORTH STAR, by Minneapolis-based artist Melanie Pankau. Pankau's sensitive gestalt is an exquisite artifact of a ritual practice. As a painter she is 'guided by my daily meditation practice followed by a process of automatic drawing where the geometric forms and diagrammatic structures in my work unfold.'

We are intrigued by the conditions of the making of NORTH STAR. 'For over a decade I have studied a variety of meditation traditions and techniques and integrate this parallel practice into my paintings that both embody and reveal a contemplative consciousness. Within my process, I translate information from the meditations into forms that are containers or symbols of quietude, stillness, and our multidimensional nature. The crux of my work centers around using the language of abstraction to counter the normative cultural narrative of separatism, destruction, and dominance. Through the investigation of geometric forms and an emotive use of color, I strive to create compositions that emanate calm and a balanced state.'
